Emerson was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has more than 8 years’ experience as a mental health professional working with adolescents with a wide variety of backgrounds. Emerson earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Pennsylvania State University, and his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University. Emerson specializes in working with adolescents, and families. As a therapist he follows a person-centered, solution focused approach which treats clients as unique individuals.
Emerson has worked in numerous levels of care ranging from in-patient, schools, residential facilities, and intensive outpatient. Emerson interned at WPIC’s OCD Intensive Outpatient Program where he developed a passion in working with anxiety disorders and exposure therapy. In his experiences he has learned that establishing rapport is paramount for success. With that knowledge Emerson prioritizes his efforts to build strong working relationships with clients and families.
Emerson has provided therapy to a variety of populations including Co-occurring Diagnosis, Depression, Anxiety, Anger Management, Stress, OCD, Trauma, Attachment, Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Emerson also has multiple years’ experience with working with the LGBTQ+ community. Emerson believes that people are a lot more than just their diagnoses, or sexual orientation and provides evidence based therapeutic techniques which help people holistically.
Emerson utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques including Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness practices, Meditation, ERP, CBT, Adventure Based Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Trauma informed therapy, Brain Spotting, and Motivational Interviewing.
